Tsunami Warning Today : 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake Struck off Coast of Alaska.

Tsunami Warnings are Issued for Parts of Alaska after Earthquake

Authorities in Alaska and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has confirmed a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Alaskan Peninsula.


According to the US. Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6 miles), some 75 miles south of the city of Chignik, according to the USGS, .


Also Tsunami Warning has been issued for southern Alaska/Alaska peninsula, and we are waiting for further word from authorities clearing U.S. mainland/Canada/Hawaii from any tsunami threat.

A local resident who identified herself on twitter as Kelsey Frazier, posted a clip of what happened and wrote

“The #homer spit is being evacuated. There’s been a massive #earthquake to the south and the tsunami sirens are blaring. Cars are streaming up Skyline, one after the other outside my window. #Alaska”


The magnitude for the Alaska earthquake has been upgraded to 7.8, and the alert area now includes #tsunami advisories for southern Alaska and the Aleutian Is. in addition to the original warning area.



A Tsunami Warning is in effect for the southern coast of Alaska reaching from Anchorage down to Unalaska following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake offshore.

– Cold Bay 12:15 AM AKDT
