A legend has passed.
He was humble, laid back and an incredible skater.
I first heard about Jon from a friend of mine Dennis Carter, who encouraged me to realize how to skate bowls by saying he had a friend who skated and only had one leg, so it’s not about the feel of the boar but just practice pumping and going fast.
Another year or two later, I did bump into Jon Comer skating, I think the first time was in San Antonio but I’m not sure but I do realize the last time I skated with Jon was at Conroe Texas park, at that point I was a pretty good beginner skater and dropping in off of coping with a little bit of vert and carving around a bowl felt really good. But to watch Jon skate blew me away.
I’ll never forget his tutorial on how to pump up a wall and down a wall to gain more speed, that unlocked so much skill in my skating. I’m so sad to find out that he passed away unexpectedly in the hospital from a sickness that he was fighting.
He was just an amazingly beautiful skater & person. He was one of those rare gems in the Texas skate scene that treated a beginner, a woman, with respect. The kind of respect that all humans are supposed to show each other. What a loss to society.
Known since he was a ripping Grom stoked on his skills, especially on the wood leg that freaked many when is came off during a run during a finals run I was announcing. Thought for sure he would pull through, now in tears for all who knew and loved him.
Too young, too talented and one of the Best I’ve known. This hurts bad and too close from our long history. More stories to come, for now I’m not sure how to even comprehend.
Love you Jon, condolences to All … Rip in Peace my friend.
