Technological advances have revolutionized communication and with the aid of technology; social media has evolved the means of communication and interaction.Social media is now an integral way in which we communicate and get work done. With advances in technology we can now complete more tasks in less time and with minimal effort. We can now be more productive.

The advances in technology has made communication fast and convenient. Social media is an example of how technology has evolved. In the past, writing letters, sending a fax and using a wired telephone were the best way to communicate but now the social media has provided us with an efficient communication method.  Social media is now a part of our life.

Social websites and applications are an integral part of our lives. Owing to advances in technology we can now achieve more productivity with minimal effort. 

The ways in which technology has changed the face of social media are:

Social media has evolved with the use of telecommunication technology. Mobile technology has increased the influence of social media. People now expect businesses to use social media to provide information and facilitate customer service

Social media gives companies a chance to voice their brand and connect with their customers and employees. It enables businesses to amplify their message. Businesses can now promptly respond to the queries and complaints of customers. Social media is invaluable to businesses who want to connect with their audience.

Technology has changed politics. According to Pew Research “62% of people get their news from social media. The influence of social media in politics has increased as social networks now plays an important role in modern politics. Social media allows people to communicate freely and it helps in creating influential organizations among groups that were once marginalized. 

Social media is now an effective campaign tool and an influential driver in politics. An advertising agency can help a states or politicians reach their goals. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube are all used by politicians to gain power and thwart their opposition.

Most of the world’s population now use some form of social media. The internet shows everyone that they are not alone and views held by one individual are held by others that can be found on social media. People can easily bolster whatever worldview that they have.

Years ago recruiters were limited in how they could reach out and engage with audiences but now thanks to technology and social media, recruiters can now contact potential candidates and clients anywhere.  Recruiters can search for people with specific skill sets or within a particular region. Recruiters can now share their thoughts and opinions through social media channels.An increasing number of job seekers use social media outlets to search for jobs. 

Employees are no longer hindered by the availability of equipment’s as they can now work in any time zone and across geographical distances. Business can now employ a global workforce. With social media; employers and employees can communicate with each other and their customers at any time of the day and from any location.

Social media has changed the way we respond to natural disasters. Social media can now be used to mobilize rescue effort and support communities in need. Campaigns can be started to donate relief. Millions around the world use social media to search for their families and friends. 

Social media search functions also make it easier if we want to track someone down who we are looking for or may have lost touch with. There are seemingly endless sources we can search to access the information we need.

Social media has led to the growth and development of cyberbullying. People can now use social media to bully others, spread rumours, blackmail others and share videos that destroy the reputation of others.

Companies can now connect conveniently with their customers and build revenue. Businesses now use social media to stimulate demand, target audiences and generate insights.  The implementation of social networks in a workplace can strengthen a business. The flip side of social media on commerce is that the social proof and credibility of a business can be destroyed if it has low number of social shares on social media.
